Praise Report for December 14, 2003

Today it was not a "near miss", it was front and center...with a goat, not a big truck. This morning I was peacefully on my way to Kabwe to meet up with Pastor and Mrs. Mawele in order to go to Malakata for the first Sunday service for this new church plant, when suddenly a goat decided to cross the road just in front of me. Honking and braking did no good, I hit it square on. Felt like it hit in the center and it must have then gone under the vehicle because I never ran 'over' it. In the rear view mirror I could see it skidding over to the side of the road, seemingly not dead but probably badly wounded. Since it is the law for people to keep their animals off the road and since even though that is the law, animal owners like to give drivers a lot of trouble, I kept going. I watched for any red lights or problem in the steering and found none, so I was rejoicing that it was a goat and not a person and that the vehicle was not damaged. When I got to Kabwe, I decided to take a look at the vehicle and got a big shock. The front bumper was seriously creased in the center and pulled to the limit, without being pulled off. Undoubtedly the bumper, being plastic, will have to be replaced...but not by me as time is running out and Mike the mechanic left for South Africa today! Sorry to the Schells who are going to be keeping my vehicle while I am gone and wanted to drive it to Harare at the end of the month. It is drivable, seemingly not having any mechanical problems but I just am not sure how the police will look at it since the licence plate is nearly folded in two.

Why do I put this on the PRAISE page? Because I am still praising God for my life (things could have been much worse) and I am still very conscious that there is a reason that He wants me alive. Now my prayer has become, "Lord help me to find that reason for which you want me alive and to be faithful to you and your calling."
