Praise Report for July 08, 2007Back in Lusaka again, I am thankful for your prayers, which assured me of a safe journey...and I'm "Feeling Terrific in a Toyota" again! (Thanks to Sergio and Nancy Bersaglio) Because of your prayers, I had only 3 heart-pounding (not heart-stopping) moments. The first heart-pounding moment came when I approached one check point and those "manning" it looked distinctly Immigration rather than Police. That caused the heart to pound because I knew my work permit had expired and I only had a receipt to prove indeed I had reapplied. I had been told the receipt would suffice but of course I doubted. Isn't it necessary to doubt everything you are told in regards to such matters? So, when asked for "personal identification" I calmly handed over my Driver's Licence. No, that wasn't good enough, passport or permit was requested. This was only about the third time I have ever been asked for my passport in Zambia and what a time to be asked! So again, calmly I handed over the passport. While flipping through the pages of the passport, I hear the Immigration Officer saying, "June 28" (the date my work permit expired). The next calm movement was to reach for and hand over the receipt and it was ever so good to hear, "That's nice." Of course, there was some other report which I have never heard about which I was told I should have. Fortunately I was only told that when I got back to Lusaka I should ask for the form and I was allowed to go on my way trouble-free. More need for prayer...please pray that the work permit will be ready before my trip to Eastern Province on Saturday. Just makes life so much easier! The second heart-pounding moment came when approaching a big truck parked on the road. He had attempted to pull over but was too wide for the shoulder and took up most of my lane. I looked at the approaching truck and thought I could make it around the truck in my lane before the approaching truck reached. Soon I realized he was coming rather fast and I had to come to a screeching (literally) stop in order to let him pass before I could pull out of my lane in order to get around the parked truck. Then came the third heart-pounding moment when I saw two big trucks coming at me...one in the on-coming lane, the other in my lane! Slowing down and pulling over to the shoulder, I thought, "he's going to make it." Soon I realized the one who wasn't going to make it was the second big truck that was following right behind the first. Fortunately by that time I had nearly come to a complete stop in the shoulder, so he also passed without any incident. Thank you! Your prayers are working! Blessings! Cheryl Ann
