Prayer Request for May 11, 2008Greetings to all...especially the Mothers, on this Mother's Day! Sorry, I know it has been very long since you have heard from me. I just don't know where the time goes. All too often, I find the day finished before I am finished what I had planned to do in the day and lately it seems that the thing left over is the email communication. So sorry! I am alive and well and rejoicing in the goodness of the Lord. I do have several prayer requests though. Could you please join me to pray for the following situations? This morning in church I was invited to pray for a delightful young woman, Womba Kantumoya. On Wednesday, Womba is boarding a plane for Hong Kong, where she, a young single Zambian woman is going as a missionary. In the few words she spoke, it was quite obvious that truly God has called her to Asia (she will be working in Hong Kong and China) and she is very passionate about following that call. Womba spoke of how several years ago she had a vision every night for a week of a young Asian girl holding out her arm to Womba and asking Womba to come to help her. That picture has never left her and she has worked hard for several years to make going to Asia as a missionary become a reality. She went to South Africa for a missions course and then came back to Zambia to do theological training and is now ready to go. Please pray for this young girl as she steps out on this exciting adventure that God has brought her to. Pray that she will find favour and will experience fruitfulness in her labours. While leaving church, the Pastor's wife stopped me to meet a young woman she was speaking to. Helen has a sad story. Her husband went to another town for work. Not only did he find work but he also found a new wife. Helen is left with 4 children to take care of...3 boys to whom she gave birth and one child which the husband brought into the marriage (and now has left with her). It was explained to me that the 2 children of school age are no longer in school because she doesn't have the fees to put them in school. Indeed, being unemployed, she is struggling to feed herself and the children. She tries to manage by making and selling fritters and scones. So, I would ask you to pray for Helen, that she might see God as the provider of all her needs...financial, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Then, as I was another step closer to getting out of the church, another Helen (the daughter of the pastor) came to me and said, "I need one of those powerful prayers too, I'm not feeling well." So, we stopped and I was able to pray for Helen. Helen is a young girl who has just finished Grade 12 and is now waiting to get into College. Helen's main request today was for healing. For some time now she has been suffering from what sounds to be allergies. So please pray and ask God to heal Helen from these allergies. I know in Canada you can get medication and treat such things but it is not so easy in Zambia to get treatment or medication and if medication is available, it usually is too expensive to be feasible. So please pray that God would heal this young girl so that she can live and breathe with complete freedom. Also please pray that she would find a good College. She wants to study Economics. In Zambia the places for Post-Secondary education are few and very expensive. So please pray for a miracle for Helen that she might find a place to study and that funds for tuition would become available for her. That was just this morning! This afternoon I received a message from another Helen (it really is a Helen day!). I was supposed to meet Helen in church this morning but I didn't find her. She communicated that she couldn't make it to church because she was not feeling well. I'm sure you have heard me talk of this Helen (Lungu) before. A couple years ago her husband died, leaving her with 4 children to care for. God has been good and Helen has managed but as the children get older and the school fees get higher, it is more and more difficult for her to continue paying the school fees. Helen is a tailor and I would ask you to pray that her business would be blessed and multiplied so that she would have enough to pay the school fees for her children and to have food to feed her family. Also pray for her in a new stage in life...empty nest. Just this past week she took her daughter to boarding school so now she is left at home alone, which is very different after always having someone around. So pray for Helen in the lonely hours. Also please pray for Wezi, the daughter who is far away from Mom and in a new school and environment. Pray that she will not experience home-sickness and that God would provide good Christian friends who will be able to encourage her in her walk with the Lord. There is another situation which has been with me since last week, when I was asked to help pray for people at the altar. I prayed for one young man, Abraham, and when I asked him what he wanted me to pray for, he said, "I'm a failure." That just went straight to my heart! We agreed in the Name of Jesus that not to be so! Please agree with us. When I tried to pursue the reason for the feeling of failure, he expressed that he knew he needed to be involved in Evangelism but whenever he tried, something came in the way. I am thinking there is likely more to the situation also, so I ask you to pray for Abraham. Another young man that I prayed for is Chongwe. Chongwe's request was, "I want to do better...in my life and in serving Jesus." What a wonderful request! Please pray that Chongwe's request will be granted, that in all things and all ways, he will "do better." Well, the lights have gone out...we here in Zambia are experiencing regular power cuts because there is not enough power to "power the nation". Unfortunately the battery-life on my laptop is down to about half an hour, so I can't depend upon it too much. So I will close for now. Thanks so much for joining me in prayer over these situations. Blessings! Cheryl Ann
