Prayer Request for August 19, 2003Please pray for Chris Zimba. Chris is the gardener at my new house. This afternoon Chris came to me saying that he would like to have 2 months off in order to follow through on an opportunity which is before him. He wants to proceed with an opportunity to travel with a truck driver with a particular company for two months, in order to experience and "learn on the job" the art of truck driving. He does have a driver's licence but at the end of the two months would have to up grade to a heavy vehicle licence. I certainly wouldn't want to hold Chris back from any opportunity he may have to get ahead. However, I have serious reservations about a young Christian husband being able to maintain his Christian standards as an international truck driver in Africa. I realize that nothing is impossible with God but it would not be an easy situation to be in. Truck drivers can be a hard lot. Sitting for days at borders, with nothing to do can cause a fellow to do things he would not do, were he home with his wife. It is said that much of the AIDS in Africa is spread by truck drivers. Could you please make it a matter of prayer to pray that God would speak to Chris and that Chris would make the right decision? Please pray for Rev. Harrison Sakala. Rev. Sakala is the Chief Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, Zambia. Recently he has been diagnosed with Sugar Diabetes. At first they were hoping to manage with a close watch on the diet. Now he is on tablets, pending further testing. Please pray that this will be stabilized and insulin shots will not be necessary. Please pray for Liberia. Tonight's news says that a peace agreement has been signed to stop 14 years of civil war. Dare we believe that this is the peace agreement that will finally end the fighting? ONLY GOD! Please pray for our feeding program in Eastern Province and the sale of 20 metric tons of split peas. The feeding program was supposed to be supported by the sale of split peas. The first disappointing word that came was that we would not be able to get for the split peas what we had hoped. The latest disappointing word is that we are not able to sell the split peas at all...they just don't seem to be an known quantity here in Zambia and thus are not in great demand. Today I heard from George Phiri, the Local Project Manager in Lumezi. He has visited the schools and said that the children are doing very well. In a couple weeks I will be travelling to Eastern Province to facilitate the mid project assessment. Looking forward to some good reports! Please pray for me for time management direction. There is only about four months remaining before I leave for home assignment in Canada and so many things to do, with more requests coming daily. Just today the Chief Bishop and the Administrator of the PAOG(Z) asked if I would help to set their accounts up on computer. There is a request in for me to do the same in the Democratic Republic of Congo. So much to do, so little time! I do need the Lord's direction to know where to put the efforts and how much I can handle. Please pray for the safety and protection of our Missionaries in South Africa. During my recent trip to Pretoria, South Africa, I was told of two vehicle theft incidences with very tragic outcomes. One was in the city, where a Mother, Daughter, and Granddaughter were all killed...just for the sake of a vehicle. How tragic! The second was on the highway, where a young girl got a flat tire. She had called her Father on her cell phone, who promptly sent help. By the time the help arrived, the car was gone and the girl was murdered. Hearing those stories made my mind go back to last July when the Venture was stolen outside the Church on Sunday morning and once again it made me so thankful that it was stolen while I was in Church and not while I was in the vehicle! Truly our missionaries depend upon God's protection daily.
