Prayer Request for February 03, 2006Sometime ago I asked you to pray for the young couple that works for me and lives on the same property as I do. They had gone to a marriage counsellor and things seemed to be better for a time. However, it is apparent the challenges of joining two different people, their different ways and their different families are taking their toil. Please pray that this couple and their marriage will be touched by God. Please pray for my health. Nothing serious but lately there has just been one little (okay, some big ones too!) pain after another that just makes me feel as if I cannot work to the fullest. I am thankful for the health that I do have but it would be nice to be rid of these irritations. URGENT PRAYER REQUEST: I just received a phone call from George Phiri in Eastern Province. He told me of the hunger that people are experiencing up there right now. The seed and fertilizer which we were able to provide in December will not produce until April or May and all food reserves are gone. Although the hunger is affecting everyone, George told me particularly about Champheta, the most remote of the communities to which we distributed seed and fertilizer and where Seedlings is operational in the school. He says the situation is critical and all the people have to eat is bitter roots which they are digging in the forest. There has been some relief maize sent in by the Government but the local people who are distributing, apparently because of jealousy, are not giving any of the relief food to the families who received the seeds and fertilizer. So they are facing serious problems, having to go long distances, sometimes two days at a time, in search of food. That means they are not able to care for their crops, which of course puts those crops at risk, meaning they will get little or no harvest. Please pray that the officials will hear the pleas and assure that all are given their rightful portion of the relief maize.
