Update for May 03, 2001Welcome Back to Africa! Every once in awhile I get an abrupt reminder that I am back in Africa. One of them came today when I had to purchase and start taking malaria prophylaxis. I haven't taken that regularly or for a prolonged period of time since Liberia days, not having to take it in Nairobi, Pretoria, or Harare. Pray that it will do its job and that I get no malaria while I am in Zambia and that I will have no side effects from the medication. Another one of those reminders came earlier this week when I went to make some oatmeal and the oatmeal was "alive". There are stages...if the little beasts are dead and you can pick them out, go ahead and enjoy! If they are still walking but only big ones float to the top when you add water, scoop them out, assume the cooking will destroy any damage and go ahead and enjoy. Then, there is when all kinds of little "things" keep floating to the top, no matter how many times you rinse it. That is when it is time to start thinking about what else you have in the house for breakfast! On this occasion, I believe I had an orange for breakfast.
