Update for March 24, 2003

March 6-12 marked a long and bumpy trip to Eastern Province to do the need assessment for a school supplementary feeding program for over 2,000 students in the 13 Alpha Schools where we have Seedlings Programs operational. Gillian Rumney and Maryella Minor from PAOC Head Office in Mississauga came along with Maryella's son Allen to help to carry out the necessary assessment in order to submit the project. We had to test a random selection of students. Due to time and road restraints (this being the rainy season) we were only able to reach 8 of the 13 schools but that gave us a large enough test group. We weighed, measured the height of, and did an armband measurement of the selected children. Several were found to be close to the danger area. Hopefully I will soon get the word that the project has been approved and I can go ahead and order the necessary HEPS (High Energy Protein Supplement) formula and get it up to where it is needed. Check out the Photo Album for the story in pictures.

Remember to be watching 100 Huntley Street this week (March 24 to 28) if possible, as Keith Parks will be on presenting the work of Seedlings and the food crisis in Zambia.
