Update for September 05, 2003

This must be "memories week". Earlier in the week I was remembering childhood days in the harvest fields on the farm in Alberta. This afternoon I have been typing out the names of the children in the feeding program that we are going to have to weigh and measure next week. That exercise took me back to Liberia in the early 80s when I was doing typing on the Tchien New Testament translation project. Why can't these kids just have easy names like Banda, Zimba, Lungu, and Phiri?. Even Mtonga, Mvula and Mwale are not bad. But how about Kapunula Lukhele or Ngurube Zindaba? I think the worst has to be Nkhoma...my fingers just will not put an "N" before a "k". Renegades! Not so bad for the fingers but try to get your tongue around Ndhlovu...that's a challenge.

Tomorrow it is on the road to Chipata (about 7 hours) where I will spend the night and attend church on Sunday morning before heading to Lumezi (about 3.5 hours). Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I will get to try pronouncing all those names as I visit the schools to do the mid project assessment. I'm hoping to see some good progress because of the feeding program.
